Immediate Impact

When completed, Farmers Field and the expanded convention center will immediately position downtown L.A. as one of the nation’s premier destinations for sports, entertainment, and conventions.

Farmers Field allows Los Angeles to finally compete for many of the top 50 conventions the current Los Angeles Convention Center is too small to host. The dramatically improved event space will attract an estimated 80 annual event days and increase economic activity in the downtown core.

The Los Angeles Convention Center currently ranks 15th in the United States by size, However, with the addition of Farmers Field and the New Pico Hall, the LACC would be in the top 5 in the U.S.

Our entire city will benefit from higher hotel occupancy rates, more jobs, and better access to important, innovative industry events.

Park at My House will tell you the “value” of your driveway and help connect you to people looking for a place to park near event venues. They also help people who just need a place to park their vehicle in your area.

venue parking

Great if you live by a venue. Not so much if you have lots of possible “park at my house” locations.

Could this effect where venues are built? Will anyone care?

This really isn’t a new concept. People have been doing this for a LONG time. It might increase the numbers if people can figure out that their house is worth admission to park at.

It’s good to know it exist and could possibly have some effect on certain venues.

Quebec City will begin constructing an 18,000-seat, $400-million NHL-style rink in September.

Here’s what cbc.ca had to say:

Quebec City mayor Regis Labeaume stated on Sunday that the new multi-functional arena will be located on the site of the old Hippodrome harness racing track, near the existing Le Colisee Pepsi, and should be ready in time for the 2015-16 season.

Behind the scenes, it has been made clear that the NHL views Quebec City on equal footing with Seattle and Kansas City as possible destinations if the Coyotes are relocated, even with the wild success with the return of the Winnipeg Jets this season.

The NHL has been operating the Coyotes since 2009 and has been on record as stating that if a new owner is not found in the next few months, they would no longer prop up the franchise, making it subject to relocation. The league claimed earlier this year that it was talking to three potential groups that were interested in purchasing the franchise and keeping it in Glendale, Ariz.

Twelve days ago at the conclusion of the NHL general managers’ meetings in Boca Raton, Fla., NHL commissioner Gary Bettman refused to set a deadline for a new ownership group to step forward in Phoenix.

This definitely sets Quebec City as a front runner in the competition for an NHL team, specifically the Phoenix Coyotes. Quebec lost the Nordiques in 1995 (now the Colorado Avalanche).

Quebec City Arena Naming Rights

Quebecor is one of Canada’s largest media companies.

The media empire landed the naming rights for the future arena and was granted exclusive rights to manage the facility.

If an NHL team is acquired, Quebecor would hand over $63.5 million for naming rights, plus $5 million in annual rent. Without one, the company would pay $33 million for the rights and an average of $3.15 million annually for rent.

The new arena should be complete by September of 2015. The arena is suppose to be very similar to the Penguins home, the Consol Energy Center.

Consol Energy Center Arena Tour

With a few cities running campaigns for an NHL team, they seem to be pushing for a new arena as a must-have if they want to get a team. Some will be angry that they are building an arena when they don’t even know if they will ever have a team. Kansas City built the Sprint Center in 2007 to lure a team to and is doing well as one of the top performing arena’s in the country.

AEG says in an article in the Kansas City Star, they’re waiting for the right time and the right team:

AEG president Tim Leiweke and Kansas City Mayor Sly James met before Tuesday night’s NHL exhibition game at the Sprint Center and came to a conclusion:

Don’t chase just any NHL or NBA team.

“Kansas City can take its time,” said Leiweke, whose company manages the Sprint Center, where an announced crowd of 17,779 saw the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in an overtime shootout.

“The key is you can chase a team, but you’re going to end up not making a great deal and maybe being disappointed. Or you can wait and not only try to find the right situation, but economically make the right deal.

Other then a new arena, someone has to move or buy/move the team along with the NHL’s approval. It’s a hard hurdle to pass but we all know the pieces can come together as it did for Winnipeg when the Atlanta Thrasher’s relocated.
